A FEW NUMBERS. A CLEARER NEXT STEP.

Brokerage cost calculators
for Canadian investors.

Compare conversion costs, check net funding, map the referral deadlines and plan an account transfer. These free tools show their formulas and work with the numbers and dates you choose.

Calculations stay in your browser. No account number, login or document is needed. The optional exchange-rate button requests public data from the Bank of Canada.

CURRENCY CONVERSION

What does the fee change?

Compare two fee assumptions for one CAD / USD conversion. Enter the percentage and fixed charge shown in your provider’s preview. This model deducts both fees in the source currency before conversion; a quoted spread, tax or different rounding method can produce a different execution amount.

Amount and reference rate

1.35 is an example rate. Enter your own rate or load the latest available daily reference observation.

Scenario A
Scenario B

The starting fees are illustrative scenarios, not a current broker quote. Enter zero where no fee applies.

Formula and worked example

Source-currency fee = amount × percentage ÷ 100 + fixed fee. Net source amount = amount − fee. For CAD → USD, divide that net amount by CAD per USD; for USD → CAD, multiply by the rate.

Illustration: CAD 1,000, a 1.5% deduction, no fixed charge and 1 USD = CAD 1.35 produces a CAD 15 fee and approximately USD 729.63. This excludes investment returns, trading commissions and any separate subscription.

Daily-rate data: Bank of Canada. Indicative daily averages, published on business days, rather than a tradable quote. See the Bank’s terms. Read the Canadian brokerage FX guide for fee and USD-account distinctions.

NET FUNDING

A balance is not the whole story.

Enter deposits you have confirmed count as external funding, and the withdrawals relevant to the same funding window. An internal transfer is excluded from this arithmetic. Meeting a number alone does not establish referral attribution, account eligibility or payment.

Amounts in Canadian dollars
Formula and worked example

Net funding = qualifying external deposits − relevant withdrawals. Shortfall = the larger of zero or target − net funding. CAD 150 deposited and CAD 60 withdrawn gives CAD 90 net; a CAD 100 target leaves CAD 10.

The default CAD 100 target reflects the standard Wealthsimple referral terms checked October 18, 2026. Your actual offer, deadlines, source classification and account conditions control eligibility. This tool has no access to your records.

TRANSFER COSTS

How long to recover the fee?

Estimate how long an unreimbursed transfer fee would take to recover through a fixed annual cost saving. Use fees in the same currency. Confirm reimbursement eligibility and include applicable tax in your fee input. Future savings are an assumption you supply.

Your transfer assumptions in Canadian dollars
Formula and worked example

Net fee = outgoing fee − eligible reimbursement. Break-even months = 12 × net fee ÷ annual cost saving. A CAD 150 unreimbursed fee and CAD 60 annual saving means 30 months. No saving means no break-even from that saving; a fully reimbursed fee leaves no fee to recover.

This model excludes tax consequences from selling investments, price movements, lost promotions, bid/ask spreads, transfer downtime and the time value of money. A transfer bonus is separate from a fee reimbursement.

Use the transfer fee and delay checklist before entering an assumed refund.

REFERRAL DEADLINES

Which date is the real cut-off?

The standard Wealthsimple referral terms run on three clocks: a 30-day funding period, a 90-day window to hold a Chequing account for the payout, and a 180-day hold on the bonus itself. Enter the dates you know and the planner works out the rest. It applies the published terms effective June 8, 2026; it cannot see your account or confirm that a referral is linked.

Dates from your own account history
Rules used and a worked example

Funding deadline = relationship date + 30 days, ending 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. If you made your first external deposit within the seven days before applying the code, the funding period starts on that deposit date and still ends 30 days after the code was applied. A first deposit more than seven days before the code falls outside the standard in-app route; the official help centre describes a manual support request for that case. Chequing deadline = 90 days after the bonus is issued, after which an unapplied bonus is forfeited. Hold end = 180 days after the bonus is applied.

Example: a code applied on gives a funding deadline of . A first deposit on moves the start of the funding period back to September 27 without moving the deadline. A bonus applied on can be withdrawn without recovery from .

Not sure which date applies? The funding guide explains how the relationship date is set, and the missing-bonus guide covers the support route.

BEFORE YOU REQUEST A MOVE

A transfer readiness checklist.

Work through these checks with your receiving broker. Tick marks record your own preparation; they are not an account approval or a transfer submission. This website’s scripts do not store checklist progress; your browser may restore field state.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

About these tools

Are the exchange rates live trading prices?

No. The optional button loads the latest available Bank of Canada daily reference observation and displays its date. Business-day averages differ from a broker’s current execution rate and fee. You can enter another reference rate yourself.

Do you save the numbers I enter?

The calculators and checklist operate in this page without sending your inputs or saving them. Loading the optional public rate contacts the Bank of Canada, which receives the request’s normal connection data; your calculator amounts are not included.

Does reaching the funding target confirm my bonus?

No. The tool only subtracts the numbers entered. Referral linkage, eligible source and account type, receipt dates, ownership and the full promotion conditions still need checking in your own account.

Does the referral date planner know whether my code was accepted?

No. It adds the published 30-, 90- and 180-day periods to the dates you type. Whether a referral relationship exists, which deposit counts as external funding and when Wealthsimple actually received the money are shown only in your own account and confirmed by official support.

Can the break-even calculator choose a broker for me?

It compares one fee with one assumed annual saving. Account features, currency costs, trading needs, transfer restrictions and personal tax questions need a separate review. Start with the Wealthsimple and Questrade comparison or Wealthsimple and Webull Canada comparison.
