First, check the account requirements.

Wealthsimple’s account-opening checklist includes living in Canada, meeting the relevant age requirement, having a valid SIN and phone number, and passing identity checks. Its residency guidance includes Canadian citizens and people with a valid Canadian visa who live in Canada. Permit holders, 9-series SINs and identity checks without a credit file are covered in the newcomer guide; this page covers the referral test itself.

Being a newcomer does not, by itself, settle referral eligibility. The promotion has a separate new-client test. Check your earlier signup and funding history if you have used Wealthsimple before.

Submit identity and banking information only through the official service. This publisher does not need your SIN, documents or account login.

Is the minimum age 18 or 19?

What counts as qualifying funding?

For the standard base referral, the current minimum is $100 CAD in qualifying external net funding. Older pages mentioning $1 can describe an earlier version or a different offer. Read the promotion linked to your account. Timing is a separate test: under the standard terms the funding period runs for 30 days from the date the referral relationship is established, ending at 11:59 p.m. ET, and the money must be received by Wealthsimple inside that window. A transfer that is still pending on day 31 does not qualify. If you first funded within the seven days before entering the code, the funding period starts seven days before the code entry and still ends 30 days after the relationship is established.

The referring client must qualify too.

The standard referral is a relationship between two eligible people. The referring client must have at least $100 CAD in qualifying net deposits when the new client funds, as well as meet the residency, age and account-standing requirements. Internal Wealthsimple transfers and promotional credits do not replace that external funding.

This website can explain the published rules but cannot verify private account balances or certify a referral outcome. If a bonus is missing, ask Wealthsimple which participant or funding condition needs attention. Source: referrer eligibility and qualifying-referral conditions.

The deposit is funding, not a referral fee.

You fund your own Wealthsimple account. You do not pay this website $100 to use PGVORW. The potential base reward is additional to that funding and depends on a qualifying referral.

The base referral terms describe funding requirements, not a requirement to buy a particular stock or cryptocurrency. Review the account and service information before deciding how to use it. A one-time bonus should not be the only reason to choose a financial account.

See the short benefit explanation or follow the code application walkthrough.

Keep funding and bonus conditions separate.

The published terms require a primary-owner Chequing account for the bonus payout. One clause gives 90 days after the first Chequing-opening notification to open the account; another expires an unapplied bonus 90 days after issuance. Keep both dates and ask support if they differ rather than assuming either clock restarts. For joint and other multiple-holder accounts, the primary-holder requirements matter.

The 180-day hold described in the referral terms applies to the bonus. Do not turn that sentence into an assumption about every deposit or every other offer: account rules and any separate promotion may impose their own conditions.

If a payment is missing, use the bonus troubleshooting checklist and ask Wealthsimple about your actual record.

Read the net amount, which may differ from the first deposit.

Suppose an illustrative new client sends $150 from an external bank, then withdraws $60 while assessing the funding requirement. The arithmetic leaves $90, not $150, before any other applicable adjustments. That is below a $100 net-funding threshold. This explains the calculation; it does not determine whether a particular account qualified.

Also separate received from requested. A transfer instruction shows you asked to move money; the received record tells you when it reached Wealthsimple. Keep that date beside the 30-day funding period that starts when the referral relationship is established. The withdrawal and bonus-hold article explains why net funding, available cash and keeping the reward are separate checks.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Can a newcomer qualify just by having a Canadian address?

Account opening includes age, identity, SIN, phone and residency requirements; referral eligibility adds its own new-client and funding conditions. An address field does not settle every check. Use the official account guidance for your circumstances.

Does a transfer from another Wealthsimple user count as external funding?

The standard terms exclude peer-to-peer transfers within Wealthsimple from qualifying external funding. Check the original source rather than counting every account credit as a new external deposit.

Does a joint account automatically qualify both holders for two bonuses?

The referral terms have primary-holder rules for multiple-holder accounts. A secondary holder does not independently receive a second bonus through the same registration. Read the family and joint-account guide before treating shared access as another entitlement.

Must I keep the whole original deposit for 180 days?

The standard referral terms apply their 180-day retention rule to the bonus. That does not decide every withdrawal: net qualifying funding, cash availability, account rules and other promotions can still matter. Check those separately before moving money.

What to do next

Check your registration and account requirements first, then reconcile the external source, net amount and receipt date against the offer. Use the net-funding calculator for the arithmetic; confirm the remaining conditions in your account.
