Create one log per account
A useful log is a short operational record. Write the source institution and masked account number, receiving account, registration, full/partial choice, holdings/cash instruction, submission date and reference. Add the last confirmed stage, the institution handling the next step and the date promised for the next update.
Keep separate rows for a TFSA, RRSP and non-registered account even when the broker brands are the same. Their documents, asset support and processing may differ. Do not compare a friend’s completed stock-only TFSA with your account containing a mutual fund, locked-in registration or unresolved debt and assume the same date applies.
Use official estimates for planning, not as guaranteed completion dates. Manual forms, corrections and specific assets can change the work required. Wealthsimple’s current transfer timeline page describes these distinctions. Questrade’s transfer-fee guide also separates the administrative transfer from the cost of selling, conversion and other charges.
Find the stage before chasing the wrong team
| Stage | Question to ask | Useful evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Submitted | Has the receiving broker sent the instruction? | Signed form and reference. |
| Accepted or rejected | Did the source accept it; if not, what exact field failed? | Rejection reason and corrected record. |
| Preparing assets | Is anything awaiting settlement, sale or support review? | Position and cash ledger. |
| Delivered | What was sent, in which currency, and when? | Delivery confirmation and quantity list. |
| Reconciled | Which dividend, fee or cost-record exception remains? | Final statements and exception list. |
If a cash balance temporarily appears at only one institution, ask which stage the movement has reached. Do not create an offsetting purchase or repeat transfer merely to make the screens look consistent. A duplicate request can obscure which instruction each team is discussing.
Check these blockers before resubmitting
- Identity and ownership: Compare the legal names and every holder on the registrations.
- Account number: Verify the actual source plan, including any currency-specific number.
- Registration: Confirm TFSA versus RRSP, spousal versus individual, and locked-in jurisdiction where relevant.
- Signature and documents: Ask whether a signed original, additional form or readable statement is missing.
- Asset support: Identify the exact unsupported position instead of assuming the entire transfer has failed.
- Pending activity: Review unsettled transactions, corporate actions, recurring purchases and account obligations.
- Cash and currency: Identify any fee deduction, debit balance, conversion instruction or USD-cash limitation.
- Conflicting instructions: Ask which reference is active before changing or cancelling a request.
For a registered account, keep the discussion on the direct-transfer route. “Withdraw and redeposit” is not a neutral workaround. Use the registered-transfer and cash distinction before changing the route.
Transferring out of Webull Canada: what to verify
Use the receiving Canadian broker’s institutional-transfer process and your Webull Canada account statement. Before submitting, confirm with the receiver and Webull Canada’s official support the delivering institution details, account number, supported transfer channel and treatment of each holding. The public Canadian help reviewed here does not establish a universal button-by-button transfer-out workflow.
Do not paste a US Webull ACATS guide, US account number format or US delivering broker identifier into a Canadian request. Ask specifically which Canadian entity and transfer method apply to your account. Provide statements and identification through authenticated broker channels, not to this website.
The Webull Canada fee schedule currently lists CAD $50 plus tax for a partial institutional transfer-out and CAD $150 plus tax for a full transfer-out, charged by CI Investment Services. A bank EFT, registered-plan deregistration and broker-to-broker transfer are separate fee categories; do not use the free-EFT line as proof that an institutional transfer is free.
If assets must be sold, establish when the resulting cash is settled and available for the requested movement. Webull’s settlement explanation distinguishes settled cash from temporary trading availability. A platform letting you place a new trade does not prove the same balance is ready to leave.
Keep fee reimbursement in a separate evidence folder
Record the fee actually debited, tax, currency and date. Keep a statement or transaction record showing the source institution, holder, account and charge. Also save the destination policy that applied to your request and its claim deadline. A promotional headline is not a substitute for those documents.
Wealthsimple’s reimbursement policy uses qualifying transfer-value and funding conditions. Questrade’s Transfer for Free terms require fee evidence within 60 days of the transfer request and cap the rebate at $150 per account. These are different processes. Do not assume a credit will appear simply because the transfer itself says complete.
For a transfer from Questrade, its administrative fee schedule lists full and partial outgoing charges separately from withdrawal and deregistration costs. If a broker advertises a reimbursement, check what it excludes before planning to liquidate an investment or close an account.
Reconcile residuals and display differences
Compare the received quantity for each security, then CAD cash and USD cash separately. Market value changes with prices. The estimate typed into a request is not a guarantee of the value at settlement, and a CAD reporting equivalent is not proof of a currency conversion.
Wealthsimple’s transfer-status guidance explains that late residual payments normally follow and gives a support route if they do not arrive. Keep an exception for each expected distribution rather than reopening the whole transfer. Cost figures may also need review: retain original acquisition records and ask the receiving broker to investigate any missing or inconsistent figure.
Hypothetical example: the shares arrive before a dividend
Suppose all 80 units listed on a transfer arrive, but a distribution later posts at the old broker. The reader records the payment date, amount and currency, references the original instruction and asks how the residual will be delivered. They do not assume the units were missing or that a fresh withdrawal is automatically the right registered-account solution.
Send a follow-up that can be acted on
Inside authenticated support, use this structure: “My transfer reference is [reference], submitted [date]. Source registration: [type]. Receiving registration: [type]. The last confirmed stage was [stage]. Please confirm the current owner of the next action, any exact rejection or missing document, and the next update date. The unresolved item is [holding/cash currency/residual/fee].”
If the response does not answer that item, ask for a written stage update or the institution’s formal complaint process. Escalation can clarify responsibility; it cannot guarantee a faster transfer, waive a legitimate fee or override a promotion. Save the case number and the answer in your log.
What to do next
The most useful transfer check is specific: one account, one active instruction and one unresolved item. Use the direction guides for Wealthsimple to Questrade and Questrade to Wealthsimple alongside this tracking checklist.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
My account transfer says complete. Why is there still money at the old broker?
A late dividend, interest payment or other residual can post after the main assets move. Record the item and ask about the residual process using the original transfer reference.
Should I submit another request if the first transfer is slow?
First ask whether the original request is active, rejected or awaiting a named correction. Avoid overlapping instructions unless the broker confirms a replacement is required.
Is a Webull Canada transfer-out free because EFT withdrawals are free?
No. The Canadian fee schedule treats bank EFTs and institutional transfers separately. It currently lists $50 plus tax for partial and $150 plus tax for full broker-to-broker transfers out.
Can I use a US Webull ACATS tutorial for my Canadian account?
Do not assume the US process applies. Confirm the Canadian delivering entity, account number, supported transfer channel and asset handling with Webull Canada and the receiving broker.
Does a manager escalation guarantee a fee refund or transfer bonus?
No. Ask for a specific review or formal complaint route, but eligibility, fees and offer conditions still apply. Keep the written answer and supporting documents.
